Governor Akeredolu wants promoters to explain sources of funds
This is the latest news in Nigeria today 2020 translated By Peter at the IDEALNEWS STUDIO in Abia
In Nigeria, The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) has called on the President, Mr. Muhammadu Buhari to halt all forms of divisive and repressive steps the federal government has taken so far against the EndSARS protesters in the country.
The Ondo State Governor and Chairman of the South-west Governors’ Forum, Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has urged the #EndSARS promoters whose bank accounts were frozen by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to approach the court to explain the sources and use of funds in their accounts reason being that the sponsors didn't show any sign of lack or incapability during #ENDSARS protest which took place across all states in the country NIGERIA).
Most Southern and Middle Belt leaders, in a joint statement issued recently and entitled, ‘You can’t kill EndSARS with terror,’ condemned the restrictions on the protesters’ accounts by the apex bank and the demonization of the protesters by the government and its sympathizers still latest news in Nigeria today 2020.
The statement that was sent was signed by Senator Bassey Henshaw (South-south); Yinka Odumakin (South-west); Chief Guy Ikokwu (South-east) and Dr. Isuwa Dogo (Middle Belt).
The letter said the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, who called the protesters ‘terrorists’, should understand have a proper definition of terrorism, as he is serving a government that was once accused of paying 3 million Euros to Boko Haram by WSJ and whose governors pose now and then with bandits they are cuddling, this could make the central bank governor feel guilty of something that might not be in existence.
The SMBLF members lamented that if the country is properly governed, what should be happening now is proper healing and making sure the country doesn't have to go through another unrest any time soon.
While demanding the release of all those arrested or their being charged to court without delay, The SMBL forum said President Buhari's administration is sowing another seed that could trigger a bigger crisis within the country.
The SMBLF also demanded a halt of the period of prolonged and intensive questioning going on in the country which is directly affecting the Nigerian Influencers Network, adding that it is an action that can bring no good to the people.
A vital part of their statement reads ‘’We did not miss the projection when we interpreted President Muhammadu Buhari’s regrets of his accepting the #ENDSARS demands quickly as being seen as a sign of weakness in his last broadcast as a declaration that he would bare his fangs and ruthlessly deal with the protesters after the unwarranted and wicked killings of some of them at Lekki Tollgate and other places.

the SMBLF talking...
‘’Let us state clearly first that we are not in any way impressed by the belated and after-thought measure of sending some Kaduna delegates like the Chief of Staff and the IG round the non-Arewa sections of the country with a script to manipulate support for the ruthless killings of our young people and the barbaric desire to clamp down on social media as we have seen in the communique of the safaris to the South-east and South-west. We see the denial by Oyo Governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde, that the South-west did not canvass the clampdown on social media as a signal that the foot soldiers of the regime are deceiving themselves to color the good points our people made at those sessions with the stinking propaganda of deluded colonial lords in Abuja.
‘’There have been reports of preventing leaders and supporters of the protest from traveling and alleged seizures of their traveling documents and freezing of their bank accounts without court process at a time the Attorney-General of the Federation is asking UAE authorities to give him the records of trials of six Nigerian Boko Haram finders convicted in that country by the highest court so he can certify whether justice was done or not,” that was said by the SMBLF.
While Speaking on a live television program, Mr. Akeredolu stated that the issue of the freezing of the accounts was discussed last Sunday at the meeting of governors, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders in the South-west but they didn't show any interest in the proposed next action since it was not convincing enough to stay as the solution to the ongoing problems in the country (NIGERIA).
The SMBLF talking...
“The issue of the accounts that were frozen was discussed, but nobody said in the communiqué that we appreciated the government for freezing the accounts.
“We know that there are ways to get a few things done without putting it in the public glare and start contestation on the pages of newspapers. So, we know what we decided and we know what we want to do about that.
“The issue, when it was raised, generated debate. But it was so clear that some people were getting to fund this for reasons other than #EndSARS. So, if we know money moved from some suspicious accounts, do you say the government should keep quiet? It is something we are looking into,” he added.
Mr. Akeredolu also encouraged the Nigerian youth representatives on the Lagos State Commission of Judiciary Inquiry probing cases of police brutality and the Lekki shootings to resume sitting while they challenge the CBN action in court to see that justice is served as it is the basic right of every citizen to get justice.
still the latest news in Nigeria today 2020 While still talking, Mr. Akeredolu also mentioned: “If I were counsel to those people, I will not advise them not to appear at that panel.
“Accounts are frozen, is that the first time it is done? If your account was frozen, you justify why the money was there. You explain what use you have used the money. If it is, okay, we paid this caterer to give food to these boys when they were there. We spent money before the hoodlums took over. It will be explained. People will know and the accounts will be de-frozen.
“If for instance, my account was frozen, all I will do is to go to court and explain. Politicians’ accounts have been frozen and all they do is to go to court to explain an
d the court will say, leave the accounts, and the accounts will be de-frozen and they get their money.”

This was aired by the Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, Mr. Samson Itodo, he said this in a chat with Vanguard while speaking on the determination of Americans to change the narrative after the massive Black Lives Matter protest across the country and beyond, which most of the young people left the streets and got registered to exercise their franchise by voting the candidates of their choice during the presidential elections.
We are IdealNews bringing you the latest news in Nigeria today 2020......According to Mr. Itodo, The INEC has indicated that voter registration will commence in the first quarter of 2021, He said eligible Nigerians should troop in there and get registered to vote. Mr. Itodo also mentioned the need for Nigerians and the government to commence planning towards the 2023 general elections to ensure that mechanisms are put to protect the sanctity of the ballot. Yiaga Executive Director also emphasized that the vote of the people counts because it guarantees change through the ballot and that is the way to go to change any government or ruling political party the people feel that can't deliver good any longer. He said: “What we have seen in the US is the people of America pushing back some of the not too dictatorial but I would say racial policies of Trumps’ administration, and it shows that democracy works, the votes of the people do count and people can get change through the ballot I think it is very important. “And Nigerians need to know this that violence is not what is going to fix our leadership problem, hatred for one another, vandalism is going to fix our problem even Boko Haram on whatever they stand is not what is going to make them achieve their goal. just before you continue! this latest news in Nigeria today 2020
“I think victory entrenched through the ballot is a powerful message Nigerians need to learn. So it is important as we plan towards 2023 the state, government the people ensure that mechanisms are put to protect the sanctity of the ballot. “The second point is and a very profound message is whilst the country Nigeria is keeping confronting different contestations and anger and disillusionment on the part of citizens and everyone in the country is really disenchanted with the state of leadership in the country that actually we can redefine our reality by getting to the voter register and voting come February 18, 2023. “If you look at the turnout it is a strong message to Nigeria that 36 percent 20 percent or even 32 percent turnout for our elections is no longer acceptable. The more people stay from voting in an election the more we will end up with irresponsible leaders who don’t have the requisite capacity and moral capital to provide the kind of leadership that Nigeria needs as a country.
Still the latest news in Nigeria today 2020... “Nigeria should get ready to vote but before you vote for those who are not on the voter register should get on the voter register. Look at what happened in the Black Lives Matter Movement and how they translated that power, those kids on the streets didn’t just end on the streets they ensure they got to the voter register, and that is what we should aim for and INEC indicated that voter registration will commence first quarter of next year eligible Nigerians should troop in and get registered and to vote.” He also acknowledged that this task of registering Nigerians on the voter register ahead of 2023 is a burden placed on INEC as there would be any excuse that machines are not working and keep the people endlessly waiting. “It also places a burden on INEC that INEC could no longer voter registration as usual where people will show and data capturing machines are no longer working or where it will take five days for people to register before they vote that will be unacceptable by Nigerians. “So INEC needs to show up to improve and ensure that voter registration starts the process will be seamless where people won’t spend less than five minutes and get registered”, he stated. On the political parties in Nigeria that want to take over power at any level, he (Itodo) charged them to run a transparent candidate nomination process that would be acceptable by all party faithful as seen done by the Democratic Party in the US ahead of the elections. “I think the parties need to learn from this that party ideology is central to driving any political party that is interested in using political power to serve the common goal. You can see how the Democratic Party ran a transparent candidate nomination process. “What can we learn from that? We need virile parties, rooted in party ideology and democratic, and I want the political class to get this clearly that Nigerians will kick you out in 2023 if you don’t structure your party in a way to throw up popular candidates, have contents, and capacity, be rest assured that Nigerians will kick you out.

Still the latest news in Nigeria today 2020... On institutions and the role they play in a democracy he said, “When you have weak institutions don’t expect democracy to flourish. Democracy provides you the opportunity to strengthen your institutions. It is clear that even though Trump does not accept the outcome of the elections he has gone to the Supreme Court; they didn’t take arms against the state, people who are on the streets jubilating. “So our security agencies are their loyalty is to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not to the President. It is disappointing that a few weeks ago the police and the army declared their loyalty to the President and not to the Constitution and that is an aberration to the fidelity of the constitution, and that constitution is a sacred document and it created these institutions. So their loyalty should be to the constitution and not to any individual”, he said.
